Try the lifestyle before choosing the address

Spending time in Southwest Florida before moving helped me understand far more than I could have learned during a short vacation. Different communities offer very different rhythms, and seasonal traffic, summer weather, distance to the Gulf, social activities, and everyday conveniences all shape the experience.

If possible, explore several communities and imagine your normal routine—not only your best vacation day.

Decide what changes—and what does not

Some buyers want a complete lifestyle change. Others want a Florida home that preserves what they value where they live now: friendly neighbors, community activities, familiar conveniences, room for guests, or easy travel to the people and places they love.

Make a list of what you want to gain, what you are willing to trade, and what you do not want to lose. That list becomes much more useful than a generic wish list.

Plan both sides of the move together

Selling your current home and buying in Florida can involve timing, financing, travel, moving logistics, temporary housing, and decisions about belongings. If you are outside the markets I personally serve, I can help connect you with an appropriate licensed agent for your sale while I guide your Southwest Florida search. If you are in Central Ohio, I can personally help with both sides of the transition.

  • A realistic sale and purchase timeline
  • Which market needs to move first
  • Travel and inspection plans
  • Insurance and ownership costs in Florida
  • A backup plan if closing dates do not align

Use firsthand experience
